Pictures

Here are some pictures I took of Owl. I think I need to take some more. I mean already these weren't taken when they were supposed to, whats it going to hurt to fake more 1st day of school pictures. We're still in the first week, that must count for something.

You'll notice how very spiffy he looks in his uniform. We found out today he is supposed to wear black or grey socks and not white ones. Ugh, I was hoping school shopping was done. I only buy him 5 shirts and 2 pairs of pants and these pants are from last year.

First day of school

Owl started 1st grade this morning. I don't really know how he felt about it because I was asleep. You'd think the mom would actually send him off, but nope, I was still in bed. I'll have to take his first day of school pictures when he gets home. We'll fake it.

The biggest thing I'm worried about is him actually eating lunch there. I mean they have them eat something different every day instead of just peanut butter and jam sandwiches. I'm not sure what he is going to do. I guess its my fault for not giving him more of a variety. Oh, and they eat at 10:30. Good luck with that one.

I'm really going to try hard to do stuff with Monkey. The poor kid is hardly ever without his brother so I get to be the one to entertain him now. This is new territory. I'm thinking we'll learn the alphabet, numbers, and maybe even get to writing his name. Maybe we'll start doing chores together. This might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Wish me luck!

Volunteering

At Owl's school they ask us to donate 40 hours through out the school year. Last year I totally slacked. I used my pregnancy and 4 year old as my excuse. This year I figured I needed to get my butt in gear and actually do something. When a big 'ol load of papers came from the school and it had volunteering opportunities listed, I figured I should go for it. I really mostly wanted to do things where I only had to interact with a small group or not deal with the kids. I know, I'm a horrible person that I don't want to help in the classroom but I just don't do well with those kinds of things. I'm more of a 'behind the scenes' kind of person.

Today we went to the school and I got to stamp 'this book belongs to...' on the inside cover of all the books. That was fun! We then went upstairs to reset the combinations on the lockers. I have to admit, that was kind of cool to have that kind of power. The kids did pretty good. I took a bunch of papers, food, markers, and books. Some of the other moms brought their kids too and all our kids just ran around in circles. While they were doing this I figured they could push their sister around in the stroller. They did pretty good until they would come around and I'd ask where she was. Owl would say "I don't know". Seriously, not an acceptable answer. Thankfully she wasn't too far and I was able to save her from her brothers 'help'.

After we were done, we went to a meeting at a lady's house who was in charge of fund raising. I didn't actually realize I had just said I would be on the committee. I just thought I would help with one activity. Oh well, that's what I get. She has decided there will be no cookie dough, wrapping paper, sort of fund raising. I really like it. We will be doing box tops and all that fun collecting things. I figured I could easily be in charge of the box tops. I mean how hard is it to sit on my floor and count box tops and send them in?

I'm hoping this will be better than I thought. Although I wasn't smart and I said I would help with the before school family picnic. I really don't want to be in charge of a game. It takes me too much out of my comfort zone and we know how I don't want to go out of my comfort zone. Oh yea, and don't forget, I volunteered Ryan for drop-off in the morning. It wouldn't be the same if I didn't make him 'volunteer'.

Homebirth

If any of you have been watching the news or read any magazines, there have been a few things about homebirth in the news. In fact, Ricki Lake made an awesome documentary titled "The Business of Being Born" (I recommend it to anyone).

I am starting to get really ticked off about it. The AMA (American Medical Association) came out with a resolution to get laws to stop women from having homebirths. Now let me tell you, about 1% of women even have homebirths. I don't get why they are so scared of us that they have to make laws in every state to make me deliver in a hospital. I don't want to deliver in a hospital. I did it with my first and I cry every time I watch his delivery. I have bonding issues and everything they do in the hospital help to hinder that. I had my 3rd at home and will never go back to a hospital for birth (unless circumstances warrant it). I just really hate that a bunch of people can decide my life choices for me. I am doing everything I should for me and my baby. I will not risk our lives for the sake of being a "hippie homebirther" but I will also do what I know to be best.

If you live in a state who is trying to do this, please e-mail your Senators and Reps and tell them not to take this choice away from us. The main thing a lot of them are saying is that they aren't making us birth in hospitals. We have the right to birth at home but that we will basically not have anyone to attend to us. They are trying to limit or keep midwives who deliver at home, illegal.

End of rant.

Pictures

All of us in front of the Twin Falls temple.

Frog is enjoying the view and she's started to sort of point to things. It's also a universal "Here, take this. Now give it back" gesture :)

Going to Grandma's

This last weekend we went to my grandma's in Idaho. She wanted us to come with her to see the Twin Falls temple. It's a beautiful temple and true to form, us Mormons build huge houses right next to the temple. My dad says its so when people come to visit the temple, they can have some place to stay. I say its because our culture says "The Bigger, The Better!" Oh and as Mormons, we have to be as close to the temples as possible! I'm happy for them, because they will have a beautiful view.

While we were there I wanted to see the twin falls. I mean thats where we were. It would be silly not to! After my grandma not remembering how to get there and a couple U turns later, we made it to the Shoshone falls. We found out she didn't know where the twin falls were or if they were different falls. Either way, they were beautiful! We didn't pay the $3 to go closer, but we did get to see a beautiful view. I will have to post some pictures when I can get my mom to send me some. (I of course didn't pull my camera out once)

All in all, it was a fun trip. We got to pick out some books my grandma was getting rid of because she is getting ready to move. Not sure when that will actually happen, but we're hopeful. We also broke a few things while helping her clean, but I guess that's what she gets for not asking professionals.

My kids sure did have a fun time with their grandpa and their cousins. I spent most the time trying to get Frog asleep and feeding her. I guess that's what happens on vacations :)

How are you?

Why is it when someone asks me how I am I proceed to tell them everything my husband and kids are doing? Do I just think I'm not interesting enough or that I'm just not doing anything?
Oh and when I start talking about my kids, I feel like I have to be equal and fair. If I say 5 things about one, I have to say 5 things about the others. Even if I'm totally making something up, I still have to say something. What's up with that?! Its not like they have any idea I'm telling people about them.
These are the deeps thoughts I have while going to bed.....
