My wassail tradition!
I wanted to refer you back to my post last year because this is what I'm doing today. I love this stuff, and I look forward to it every year! So does my family. My boys were actually sucking on the leftover cinnamon sticks last night.
I really should take notes every year and try to remember the things I do wrong. Like the fact that I've already been to the store 3 times and I'm going to have to go again. I can't make a double batch in my stock pot. A double batch is only enough for handing out and not enough for the family.

Santa Claus
When we had our first kid we talked about whether we should have Santa. We got all stuck on the idea of not lying to our kids, them being greedy, and having Christ be the center of our Christmas and not Santa.
We've never bought presents for our kids and said they are from Santa. Actually, we haven't bought our kids a whole lot because Ryan was either in school, we didn't plan well or we just don't feel our kids need a lot of stuff.
Back to Santa, once we had our second and they were getting older, we thought we should explain Santa because, seriously, you can't avoid him altogether, especially when they start making friends. Everywhere you look, Santa is there!
We explained the tradition of Santa. Well at least as much as I know. There was a nice man who gave people gifts, or Saint Nicholas. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I may not know or remember the traditions of where Santa came from. I may have to do some googling.....
After all the work we've done to not believe in Santa, last year and this year, my kids still believe he is real. They don't expect him to bring them gifts, but he sure is real. They talk about where he lives and what his elves look like. It didn't help that when we moved, we have a real live Santa in our LDS ward. He really is, he even wears red and green suit coats.
Santa is now a non issue in our family. Which means we don't say he real and brings us presents and we don't go off about him not being real. We still talk about the many different traditions of who he is, which I will learn again because my mind is mush, and he will continue being a nice old man who has reindeer and elves.
